A Major Step Forward for Wildlife and Public Safety in Park City

ree

Last week marked a pivotal moment for Park City and the wildlife that call this area home. Save People Save Wildlife (SPSW) welcomed Rock Design Associates for a site visit to S.R. 224 as part of our independent study on wildlife mitigation strategies—and the effort made headlines in The Park Record.

The visit brought together local advocates, expert designers, and agency officials from across the state to examine one of the most dangerous wildlife corridors in Utah. The team toured the corridor during rush hour to witness firsthand the traffic volume and topographic challenges that make this stretch so deadly for animals and dangerous for drivers.

With regional agencies operating on reduced budgets and razor-thin margins, SPSW took the initiative to independently commission this study, funded through local donations. We believed more could—and should—be done. With more than 60 large animal deaths in the last 18 months alone, time is of the essence.

The collaborative spirit on display was inspiring. From county officials to wildlife biologists to Rock’s nationally respected design team (including experts from Banff, Colorado, and New York), there was one clear takeaway: Everyone at the table wants to find a Park City-appropriate, data-driven solution.

This is our chance to lead the state in creating safer roads, protected migration routes, and a legacy of public safety and environmental stewardship.

We invite you to read the full Park Record article here and join us as we push forward into Phase Two of this work.

Let’s be the voice for wildlife—and safety—in Park City.
